New Short: Victory Auto Wreckers

I took the liberty of remixing the classic Chicagoland commercial for Victory Auto Wreckers. It’s sure to drum up a lot more business. You’re welcome guys!

I got mentioned in Time Out Chicago

I got a little shout out in the latest issue of Time Out magazine. Steve Heisler reported on the end of the Bastion, a popular Chicago comedy scene blog. I’m mentioned in the opening line and everything. wooh!:

On September 3, two days before the Bastion comedy blog shut down, the site’s regular “New Video Wednesday” roundup posted a link to green improviser Joe Avella’s work. He immediately blogged on his personal page: “I’ve read the Bastion on-and-off since I got ‘into the scene,’ ” the post read, “and it was always a short-term goal to get mentioned on it or have a video posted.”

(Click here for the post he’s referring to)

Totally weird, but really cool. I’m very pleased that I was mentioned in the article, but a little puzzled too. How did Steve, or anyone for that matter, notice my post? Like I said, it’s cool, I just didn’t think anyone knew about this site. Word.

I’m not sure what was meant by ‘green improviser’. I’m assuming he meant green as in new or inexperienced. Not green as in queezy or appearing ill.

Anyway, read the full article here. I’m not mentioned in it again, but it’s still kind of interesting.

2 movies in the B-Movie Film Fest!

Great news: Not one, but two of my shorts will be screened at this year’s B-Movie Film Fest in Syracuse, NY.

Wheelchair Werewolf and FutureCop 2010 were both accepted into the shorts part of the festival. Wheelchair Werewolf is also nominated for Best Short in the fest! No joke!

Here’s the list of nominees for best shorts:

Pic Six
I Kicked Luis Guzman in the Face
Killer Weed
Wheelchair Werewolf
Casting Call of Cthulhu
The Ghouligans Super Show!
Safety First: the Rise of Women

If it’s decided on title alone, I’m neck and neck with I Kicked Luis Guzman in the Face.

I’m very thrilled! I’ll shoot you more info as it comes in.
